As I approach 49, I realize that I’m exhausted thinking about diet and I’m also bored to death talking about it with my poor husband. In the last three years, I’ve lost 10-25 lbs, twice, completed a round of Beachbody’s Insanity, started P90x, dabbed in 21-day fix, completed a round of the Fast Metabolism Diet. Even in the last month, I started learning about Ayurveda, wondering what clues it could offer. Every time – I’ve had to go through the effort of learning the new ‘rules’ – what to eat, how much to exercise – for each ‘diet’. What I’m really looking for is a sustainable way of eating that doesn’t require so much effort.
So I’m trying something that seems, on the surface, crazy – LCHF. On a low-carb, high-fat diet, you eat a lot of fat, and a moderate amount of protein, which comes from eggs and meat. The carbs come only from fiber-rich vegetables. Prior to this, I was a near-vegetarian and ate a lot of vegetables and healthy grains, but I never lost weight. On this diet, your body learns to use fat for energy instead of carbohydrates, converting your body into a fat-burning machine and providing a steady supply of energy. I’m excited to give a try. Wish me luck!
